3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue kicks off in Baku – President Ilham Aliyev is also participating in the forum

Baku: The 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue started in Baku on Monday.

The forum, which goes under the motto “Let’s share culture for the sake of common security”, will be dedicated to the theme: “Culture and sustainable development in the post-2015 development agenda”.

The discussions will in the first place focus on projects and programs dedicated to 21 May – the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which was declared by the UN Security Council as well as the role of religion, migration, sports, education, art and business in the strengthening of cooperation and confidence among cultures.

The forum is being held under the auspices of the Azerbaijani president, in close collaboration with international political, economic and cultural power centers like UNESCO, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Council of Europe, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

More than 500 representatives are participating in the forum.

Along with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Iyad bin Amin Madani, ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Advisor to the UNWTO Secretary-General on Tourism and Peace and the Regional Director for the Middle East Amr Abdel-Ghaffar are also attending the forum.

Also, the regional director for the Middle East will read out the congratulatory letter of UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai.

Note that, the 1st World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue was held from 7 to 9 April 2011 in Baku. The then-participants discussed issues of intercultural dialogue on conceptual bases, management and policy in different aspects.

And the 2nd forum was held from 29 May to 1 June 2013 in Baku.
