20 more officers detained over illegal wiretapping allegations in Mersin

MERSIN: As part of a new wave of operation targeting senior police officers over claims of illegal wiretapping, 20 were detained by the police in the southern province of Mersin on early Tuesday.

Police firstly raided houses of the police officers and took them to the police station.

Detained police officers were later taken to the hospitals for medical check.

Some 18 police officers were detained as part of a similar operation last week in Ankara. All of the policemen were later released after their interrogation. Dozens of police officers were also targeted in similar operations in July and August.
