The truck caught fire due to an unknown reason while on the highway between the city of Adıyaman and the Golbası district. The driver stopped the truck upon warnings from soldiers traveling in the vehicle. The fire grew larger and then there was an explosion from inside the truck.

The driver, a passenger and two soldiers, Omer Erdem and Mustafa Yigitalp, were injured in the explosion and taken to Besni State Hospital. The soldiers are reportedly in good condition. The blast also tore down a wall on the side of the highway and created a hole in the road. The highway was blocked to traffic.
