16 documentaries, 31 shorts to compete at Ankara film festival

Thirty-one short films and 16 documentary features from Turkey will be vying for awards in competitive sections of this year’s Ankara International Film Festival, the organizers announced Tuesday. andldquoAdem BaIaran,andrdquo a short film directed by Orhan Ince that won the audience award for best short film at last monthand#39s !f Istanbul International Independent Film Festival and andldquori Bandoumllgeandrdquo (Mother Virgin No More), female director Derya Durmazand#39s sophomore short film that premiered in February at the Berlin Film Festival, are among fiction titles in the running.

andldquoKanduumllkedisi DeIilizandrdquo (Ainand#39t No Cinderellas!), a documentary directed by Emel andCcedilelebi, about a group of housekeepersand#39 struggle in Turkey for their right to social security and to have their vocation legally recognized and andldquoandOumllmez AIaandccedil: YIrca DireniIiandrdquo (The Tree of Eternity: The YIrca Resistance), directed by KazIm KIzIl, are among the 16 titles in the documentary competition, selected from among 86 submissions.

The 26th Ankara International Film Festival will take place from April 23 through May 3 The winners of awards in the festivaland#39s competitive sections will be announced on May 2
