1023 died in traffic accidents in Azerbaijan this year

Baku: Fuad Jafarov – APA. The statistics of traffic accidents occurred in Azerbaijan this year have been made public.

Chief of the public affairs department of the State Traffic Police Office Kamran Aliyev told APA that 2429 road accidents occurred in the first eleven months of 2014. Consequently, 1023 people died, 2452 were injured.

Compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 217, death toll by 38 and the number of injured by 309 facts. During the reporting period, 53 traffic accidents were caused by drunken drivers. Consequently, 28 died, 60 were injured. The number of traffic accidents caused by drunken drivers decreased by 20, death toll by one and the number of injured by 28 facts by contrast to 2013.

344 pedestrians died, 644 were injured as a result of 917 road accidents. Compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 93, death toll by 20 and the number of injured by 84 facts.

690 traffic accidents occurred in the first eleven months of 2014 due to exceeding the speed limit. Consequently, 349 people died, 566 were injured. The number of traffic accidents occurred due to overspeed decreased by 77, death toll by 31 and the number of injured by 93 facts by contrast to 2013.

219 died, 586 were injured in 516 traffic accidents caused by people who have no right to drive. Compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents caused by people who have no right to drive decreased by 137, death toll by 33 and the number of injured by 145 facts.

In the first eleven months of 2014, 792 traffic accidents occurred due to violation of crossing of intersections in which 308 people died, 947 were injured. The number of traffic accidents occurred due to violation of crossing of intersections decreased by 34, death toll by 48 and the number of injured by 98 facts by contrast to 2013.

83 children (under the age of 16) died, 222 were injured in road accidents during the reporting period, death toll increased by 6 facts, the number of injured decreased by 36 facts by comparison with previous year.
