100th anniversary of WWI commemorated across Europe

LIEGE (CIHAN)- Several commemoration ceremonies were held in separate parts of the Europe to mark 100th anniversary of outbreak of the World War I.

In Liège, a state ceremony was organized with the participation of King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and German President Joachim Gauck.

The war which lasted four years left some 10 million dead and 20 million injured on the battlefields. Millions more perished under occupation through disease, hunger or deportation.

Some other commemoration ceremonies were in Australia, Germany and England.
