Yemeni subcommittees in Kuwait meet to reach settlement

KUWAIT, May 10 (KUNA) — The three sub-committees dealing with Yemeni peace talks in Kuwait, resumed on Tuesday their meetings to discuss proposals made last week by the two Yemeni negotiating sides regarding political, security, and detainees issues.
Discussion centered on the best way to deal with the issues at hand in implementation of relevant UN security council resolutions. Following today’s meetings, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed applauded in a press statement the spirit of cooperation and national commitment shown by participants in the subcommittees to resolving their differences and attaining a peace agreement. “An overriding atmosphere of positivity and optimism pervaded the subcommittee meetings” despite the enormity of the issues at hand and the deep chasm between the negotiating sides, said the envoy.
He urged negotiators to spare no efforts at reaching a comprehensive political settlement for the Yemeni crisis, noting that a crossroads has been reached and “it is a matter of either achieving peace or going back to square one.” (end) am.ajs
