US says new Israeli Defense Min 'raises legitimate questions' on policy direction

WASHINGTON, May 25 (KUNA) — The US said Wednesday Israel’s announcement of Avigdor Lieberman as its new Defense Minister “raises legitimate questions about the direction it may be headed in and what kind of policies it will adopt.” There are reports from “Israel describing it as the most right-wing coalition in Israel’s history. And we also know that many of its ministers have said they oppose a two-state solution,” said State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner to reporters.
He added, “we’re going to work with this government, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the security of Israel, and in our commitment to working towards a two- state solution.” (end) ak.bs
