US rejects Russia's proposal for joint airstrikes in Syria

WASHINGTON, May 20 (KUNA) — The US on Friday rejected Russia’s invitation for the US-led coalition and Russian forces to conduct joint airstrikes on Syrian rebels, who are not complying with the ceasefire.
“I can only tell you from where I sit and where we sit today, that we do not collaborate or coordinate with the Russians on any operations in Syria,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis told reporters.
The proposal, which calls on joint action as of May 25 on groups such as Jabhat Al-Nusra, was announced via a Russian televised address delivered by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu during a ministry meeting in Moscow. (end) sd.ibi
