US could see interest rate hike in “coming months” – Yellen

WASHINGTON, May 27 (KUNA) — If the US economy continues to do well after a slow first quarter, an interest rate hike can be expected soon, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said Friday.
“I think for the Fed to gradually and cautiously increase our overnight interest rate over time and probably in the coming months, such a move would be appropriate,” she said in response to a question at Harvard University.
“The economy is continuing to improve.” The Fed is expected to hold meetings in mid-June to make a decision on interest rates, US media reports said. (end) ys.ibi
