US airstrikes kill 10 Al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen

WASHINGTON, May 6 (KUNA) — The Pentagon announced late Friday that US counterterrorism airstrikes since April 23 in Yemen have killed 10 Al-Qaeda operatives and injured one more.
The Obama Administration considers the Al-Qaeda branch in Yemen, known as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (or AQAP), to be the most dangerous.
In a statement, US Central Command said two “operatives” were killed in the Marib Governorate in central west Yemen on April 23; another two in Abyan Governorate near the southern coast of Yemen and two in the vicinity of Azzan in central Yemen on April 25; and four in Shabwah Province in central Yemen on April 28, where one “operative” was also injured. “Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula remains a significant threat to the region, the United States and beyond,” the statement affirmed. “Al-Qaeda’s presence has a destabilizing effect on Yemen, and it is using the unrest in Yemen to provide a haven from which to plan future attacks against our allies as well as the US and its interests. “The US will not relent in its mission to degrade, disrupt and destroy Al-Qaeda and its remnants,” it concluded.
