Riyadh – UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed met here today with ambassadors of the GCC member states.

The UN Envoy briefed the ambassadors on the latest developments of the crisis in Yemen.

At the beginning of the meeting, he appreciated the efforts of the sponsors of the GCC initiative for peace in Yemen and their great support to his mission, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Owaisheq said.

Cheikh Ahmed expressed hope that the GCC support to the UN efforts will lead to resumption of the intra-Yemeni peace talks and a mutually-acceptable solution to the crisis based on the GCC initiative and the UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

Al Owaisheq reaffirmed the GCC commitment to helping the Yemenis put an end to the crisis and backing up the relief effort for the Yemeni people.

He commended the outcome of the conference, held here yesterday, on reconstruction and recovery in the Republic of Yemen, urging the international donors to scale up the humanitarian assistance to Yemen.(QNA)
