UN chief moves coordinator from Syria to Liberia

NEW YORK, June 27 (KUNA) — UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced today relocation of his Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Yacoub El-Hillo from Syria to be his Deputy Special Representative in UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).
At the daily briefing at the UN headquarters, the Associate Spokesperson for Ban, Farhan Haq confirmed the appointment of El-Hillo of Sudan, noting that he will also serve as the UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the UNDP.
El-Hillo succeeds Antonio Vigilante of Italy, who concluded his assignment on mid-June.
The newly relocated Sudanese official, has served prior to his assignment in Syria, as the Office of the UNHCR Director for the Middle East and North Africa in Geneva, as well as the UNHCR Regional Representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2009-2010.
