Turkish Pres. assigns new AKP leader to form gov't

ISTANBUL, May 22 (KUNA) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assigned Sunday the new leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Binali Yildirim to form the government, following resignation of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Erdogan met with Yildirim at the Presidential Palace in Ankara for an hour, during which he assigned him to form a cabinet.
The President accepted Davutoglu’s resignation earlier today and asked him to run affairs of the country until a new government was formed.
Yildirim is AKP’s third leader after Erdogan and Davutoglu. (pickup previous) rs.bs
