Turkey Arrests Senior Police Officers over Coup-linked Messaging App

Istanbul, – As many as 120 senior police officers were arrested Friday in a nationwide operation for allegedly using a messaging app authorities believe was linked to the July 15 failed coup attempt, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported.

The operation remains underway as authorities were targeting 166 officers, a police official said.

Turkish security agencies were believed to have cracked the ByLock smartphone app before the coup attempt and reportedly identified tens of thousands of plotters, Anadolu reported.
