BEIRUT, May 30 (KUNA) — Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai said Monday tourism has flourished recently due to the efforts by the Lebanese authorities to activate this economically-vital sector.
Rifai, in a statement after meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, said they discussed means of reviving environmental tourism and how to attract Arab tourists.
He said tourism in Lebanon was a major sector for economic growth and social development, in addition to providing jobs.
Rifai called on Arab tourists to come to Lebanon which has been witnessing stability and security.
Tourism in Lebanon received a setback since 2011 due to the political and security conditions inside the country, and the crisis in neighboring Syria. (end) wsm.bs
