SOCCEREX ASIAN FORUM 2016 KICKS OFF IN DOHA

Doha, – Soccerex Asian Forum 2016 kicked off Monday in Doha, with the participation of an elite of football icons from around the world as well as presidents and directors of a large number of international sports clubs and football organizations.

The two-day forum, founded in 1995, is held at Grand Hyatt Hotel Doha in partnership between the organizers and the Supreme Committee of the Delivery and Legacy (CS).

Following the opening ceremony, a session on Qatar’s hosting of FIFA World Cup 2022 was held under the chairmanship of Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee of the Delivery Hassan Al Thawadi, who delivered a speech starting with welcoming the guests of Doha and wishing them pleasant stay in Qatar.

“December 2 marked six years since we were awarded the rights to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and it serves as a moment for us to reflect on our journey,” Al Thawadi said.

“These six years have proved challenging, but I am confident that we have made significant strides and that we are on the right path to delivering a successful tournament in 2022, and a legacy that benefits our region in the decades to follow,” he added.

Al Thawadi said that Soccerex Asian Forum 2016 is an excellent opportunity for gaining a greater understanding of what Qatar has achieved so far, the projects already underway, and the future vision for beyond 2022.

“When we launched our bid in 2009 and appeared at the Soccerex Forum, we were explaining to people where Qatar was on a map. The events hosted by Soccerex were of the utmost importance to us. They provided us a platform to market our bid and the concepts that made it successful,” he said adding “Soccerex gave us the opportunity to network with individuals and companies within the industry conveniently gathered under one roof. It assisted us in bringing our messages to the industry, enhancing our contacts, and most importantly, making friends across the world.” The SC Secretary-General said: ” On this note, it is appropriate that I mention the driving force behind Soccerex Duncan Revie. News of Duncan’s passing in September was received with great sorrow in our committee. He extended his warm hand of friendship to us when we first met in 2009, and always made us feel thoroughly welcome whenever we were in his company.” “Duncan launched Soccerex twenty-one years ago He foresaw the direction that the football industry was heading when he created Soccerex. He understood the continually expanding diverse array of stakeholders and the potential for partnerships that existed if people could be gathered together. Under his guidance, Soccerex has developed into a truly global brand with events having taken place in Mexico, Ghana, Jordan, South Africa to name a few,” Al Thawadi said.
