Shooting prompts brief White House lockdown

WASHINGTON, May 20 (KUNA) — The White House has been placed on lockdown for less than an hour Friday afternoon after a man with a gun was shot by the Secret Service nearby.
The man has reportedly approached a checkpoint close to the West Wing of the White House, near 17th and E streets, and refused the orders to drop the gun.
As a result, he was shot and moved to a hospital in a critical condition, CNN reported, citing law-enforcers.
US President Barack Obama was not at the White House at the time of the shooting which was around 3 PM ET. (end)
