Security operations kill 36 rebels across Afghanistan: MoD

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (KUNA) — At least 36 insurgents were killed in fresh counter-terrorism operations by security forces in different parts of Afghanistan, said Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Monday.
A statement by the Ministry said, “As a result of the clearing operations by Afghan security and defense forces, 36 armed insurgents including two of their commanders were killed.” The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Sar e Pul, Herat, Jawzjan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar and Helmand provinces of the country.
The counter-terrorism operations followed the launch of annual spring offensive by Taliban rebels against the foreign and local forces across Afghanistan rejecting the peace dialogue offer by Afghan government. (end)
