Saudi King reshuffles cabinet, restructures state bodies

RIYADH, May 7 (KUNA) — Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has issued a number of royal orders that include restructuring of the Kingdom’s state institutions and reshuffling the Cabinet, official media reported Saturday.
The new orders include the cancelation of the Ministry of Water and Electricity, and the amendment of the name of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to become the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Saudi royal court said in a statement, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
They also include the amendment of the name of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to become the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources, the statement said, noting that it shall be dedicated for energy, in addition to undertaking tasks, responsibilities, and activities relative to electricity and industry.
The integration of the Ministry of Labor with the Ministry of Social Affairs to become one ministry named the Ministry of Labor and Social Development was also among the royal orders.
Orders also include the establishment of General Authority for Entertainment, which will undertake all activities related to entertainment with a board of directors which chairman is appointed by a royal order, it said, adding that there is also the establishment of General Authority for Culture with a board of directors chaired by the Minister of Culture and Information.
The Saudi King also relieved a number of ministers and top officials from their posts, and appointed new ones instead at ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Hajj and Umrah, Commerce and Investment, Energy and Industry and Mineral Resources, Transport, Social Affairs, and Health.
He also appointed Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Kabeer Al-Saud as his Advisor, in addition to a number of new advisors at the Royal Court, ministries, senior scholars commission, and the general secretariat of the council of ministers.
King Salman also relieved a number of senior state officials from their posts, including the Governor of Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and President of the General Auditing Bureau, appointing new ones instead. (end) yms.ma
