Russia: Talks conducted for lull in fighting to Syria's Aleppo

MOSCOW, May 1 (KUNA) — Talks are taking place actively to lull in fighting to Syria’s Aleppo, Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
The statement didn’t give further details, noting that there has been a lull in fighting since two days to Damascus and some of its outskirts, and parts of northwestern coastal province Latakia.
Al-Nusra Front militants tried to control a main route leading to Aleppo through taking over some villages, the statement said, adding that they failed to achieve their goals.
Syrian and Russian aircraft didn’t strike sites of the armed groups which agreed to abide by the ceasefire declared in Syria since last month, it said, indicating that at least 85 areas have so far joined the truce.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Saturday that Moscow would not put pressure on Damascus to stop bombing Aleppo, adding that Syrian military operations in Aleppo are part of the fight against terrorism. According to a monitoring group, the 10-day bombardment by both the government side and insurgents in the city of Aleppo has killed more than 250 people. (end)
