KUWAIT, May 31 (KUNA) — Local groups have launched an initiative aimed at providing libraries of prisons with books and people wishing to donate books could do so at Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah’s Yarmouk’s office tomorrow.
This is the first phase of the initiative which aimed at providing books for libraries of prisons, said Sheikha Bibi Al-Sabah, coordinator of the Raf (meaning Shelf in Arabic) Initiative, on Tuesday.
The initiative, she added in a press statement, also aimed at providing books for all libraries nationwide, social care centers, hospitals and schools.
Sheikha Bibi said Raf Initiative was a social gesture launched in cooperation with Human Line Organization and the Social Work Society.
She thanked the ministries of foreign affairs, social affairs and labor for allowing civil society organizations to visit prisons to know their needs of books.
Hassan Kadhem, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development at the Social Affairs Ministry, described the Raf Initiative as “excellent and deserves encouragement of all.” Kadhem, in a statement to KUNA, called on all NGOs to contribute to the intiative to raise awareness among the public over the importance of voluntary action.
Taher Al-Baghli, Secretary General of the Human Line Organization, told KUNA the initiative aimed at helping the prisoners blend in the society. (end) akw.bs
