QFD, UNESCO Sign Grant Agreement to Support Regional Office in Doha

Doha, – Qatar Fund for Development (QFD) signed a grant agreement to support the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office in Doha.

The agreement was signed on behalf of QFD by its General Manager Khalifa Jassim Al Kuwari and by Director of UNESCO Regional Office in Doha Dr Anna Paolini on behalf of UNESCO.

The grant agreement increased the State of Qatar’s contribution to support the budget of UNESCO Office in Doha to USD 500,000 to cover operating costs, meet logistics needs and support the annual Office budget for 2016.

In a press statement, QFD General Manager Khalifa Jassim Al Kuwari confirmed the joint cooperation between QFD on behalf of the State of Qatar and UNESCO, adding that QFD attaches great importance to UNESCO programs and activities aimed at supporting education, culture and science sectors, which stems from its vision to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development in developing countries.

Al Kuwari said that Qatar appreciates UNESCO’s efforts in the region, stressing QFD’s keenness to participate along with UNESCO in promoting the right of people in developing countries to preserve their heritage, culture and rights to knowledge and education.

From her part, Director of UNESCO Doha Regional Office, Dr Anna Paolini, expressed appreciation for the State of Qatar’s continued support to UNESCO, especially the UNESCO Office in Doha, stressing the importance of cooperation with QFD to support the Government’s vision to provide quality education for all as well as to continue cooperation in the fields of science and the protection of cultural heritage in all around the world.

This long-term cooperation between the State of Qatar and UNESCO’s Office has made many achievements in promoting sustainable development and addressing social, environmental and economic challenges at the regional and international levels, Dr. Paolini said, stressing that QFD’s contributions reflects Qatar’s commitment to supporting further efforts to build peace and strengthening solidarity between nations.
