QATAR TO HIRE 900 TEACHERS TO FILL VACANCIES

DOHA, May 13- The Director of the Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department at Qatar’s Supreme Education Council (SEC), Ibrahim Rajab Al-Kuwari, has revealed that the Council is planning to hire more than 900 teachers from different scientific and literary disciplines to fill vacancies at independent schools and to work in newly-opened schools.

Al Kuwari told reporters here that more than 36,000 teachers — 6,883 from Qatar and 29,117 from abroad — had applied for the posts, explaining that interviews for the selection of local candidates had been completed prior to offering the results on the owners of independent schools licences to choose the best of competent teachers who suit them, according to the vacancies which they had already declared, in the context of early preparation for the new academic year 2014-2015.

On the mechanism for filling vacancies at independent schools, Al-Kuwari said it is based on attracting the best professional teachers who have experience from among Qataris and expatriates residing in Qatar, as well as teachers from neighbouring countries with similar cultural and social backgrounds namely Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, without specifying a specific number from any of these countries.

He explained that the work on the mechanism was progressing according to plan, adding that the role of the Human Resource Department is to support independent schools through direct supervision of the mechanism for the appointment of teachers at schools, including the conduct of written tests and personal interviews to ascertain that job requirements are matching the qualifications, experience and job title of teachers.
