QATAR TO CELEBRATE WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK 2017

Doha, – The State of Qatar celebrates World Immunization Week, which will be held on 24-30 April 2017, under the theme ‘Vaccines Work.’ On the occasion, the Ministry of Health is organizing a number of educational and awareness activities targeting different segments of the society, including educational and awareness events in a number shopping centers and malls during the weekend.

The Ministry hosts tomorrow a three-day workshop on effective vaccine management. in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) with the participation of the Ministry’s immunization staff at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Center along with a number of health workers in the private health sector.

Immunization averts 2 to 3 million deaths annually; however, an additional 1.5 million deaths could be avoided if global vaccination coverage improves.

World Immunization Week � celebrated in the last week of April � aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Immunization saves millions of lives and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Today, there are still 19.4 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world. (QNA)
