QATAR SAYS ISRAEL DOES NOT BELIEVE IN TWO-STATE SOLUTION

GENEVA, Switzerland, Mar 21 (NNN-QNA) – Qatar stressed that, Israel is an occupying power, that does not believe in the two-state solution, and considers itself above the law, and violates all international resolutions and laws, stressing that, continuing the violations and crimes, committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, are major obstacles to the peace process in the region.

This came in a speech, delivered by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, during the interactive discussion with the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian territories, occupied since 1967, within the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Permanent Representative said, Qatar condemns the Israeli law on the legalisation of settlements, which is considered a flagrant violation of the relevant laws and international conventions and resolutions, especially UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334, and a violation of Israeli law itself, as well as, a violation of the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian people was forced to live under the “apartheid” regime applied by Israel, he added, stressing that, this calls for the international community to hold accountable, Israeli officials and leaders. He added, Qatar strongly condemns, what has been reported in the UN special report, on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, that two million Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are subjected to collective punishment and unjust siege.

In this respect, Qatar called on the international community to take the necessary measures, to end the siege and open the crossings, to facilitate delivery of humanitarian assistance and expedite the reconstruction process, reiterating its firm stance towards the Palestinian issue, and full support for the rights of the Palestinian people, in ending the occupation, self-determination and the establishment of a fully sovereign independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem, on the borders of 1967, according to a specific time frame.

The Permanent Representative voiced Qatar’s condemnation of Israeli authorities’ denial of access to the occupied Palestinian territories, for the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations, on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, in order to implement the mandate entrusted to him.
