DOHA, – Qatar Development Fund (QDF), on Sunday, signed a US$5 million agreement, with Turkey’s Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF), to support Syrian refugees.

The agreement was signed by QDF General-Director, Khalifa Jassim Al Kuwari, and the United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O’Brien.

Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Foreign Minister and QDF Chairman, witnessed the signing.

Al Kuwari said that, the signing indicated Qatar’s and QDF’s keenness to support the Syrian people through humanitarian and development assistance programmes.

He stressed on Qatar’s long term support for Syrian refugees and QDF’s continued efforts to back thousands of them, through financing humanitarian operations and providing assistance to those affected.

O’Brien, meanwhile, urged the international community to also provide assistance to the humanitarian operations in Syria, pointing out that, such contributions could save the lives of Syrians, in particular women and children.

He thanked Qatar and QDF for their generous contributions and efforts, in alleviating the suffering of those affected, in all parts of the world.
