Qatar Committed to International Cooperation for Development, Statement Says

New York, – The State of Qatar will give maximum effort to continue its role as a partner in international cooperation.

This came during a speech read out by member of Qatar’s delegation to the UN General Assembly HE Sheikh Khalid Mansour Al-Thani. His Excellency was speaking during the meeting of the second committee, the Economic and Financial Committee, that was held today.

His Excellency highlighted Addis Ababa’s action agenda as a reflection of the strong efforts made to enhance global partnerships in development. It is also an important part of the 2030 sustainable development agenda and an addition to the Doha Declaration on Financing for Development, His Excellency added.

The member of Qatar’s delegation to the General Assembly said that Qatar continues to provide support to programmes concerned with enhancing cooperation in economic and social development as well as combating poverty. One example of such efforts includes hosting the Follow-up International Conference on. Financing for Development in 2008, which concluded with the Doha Declaration. His Excellency also stressed that developing countries in particular must cooperate with one another even more.

On the latest developmental challenges in the region, the statement of the State of Qatar noted that the Arab World was prone to many risks like all other regions across the world. These risks could come from crises, social, economic or environmental challenges, the statement added.

The statement also highlighted the importance of trade as an engine for economic growth and an important tool in combating poverty and achieving sustainable development.
