Parliament postpones electing new president for Lebanon

BEIRUT, May 10 (KUNA) — Parliament speaker Nabih Berri announced on Tuesday postponing presidential elections for the 39th time for lack of quorum. He set June 2nd as a new date for elections, official media sources said, indicating that only 41 lawmakers showed up today for the vote for a new president, falling short of the required 86, or two thirds of the 128 lawmakers making up the total of the parliament.
By May 25, Lebanon enters its second year without having a president. Those who are up for nomination for the post of president are confined to MPs Suleiman Feranjiya, Michel Aoun, and Henri Helo. (end) ayb.ajs
