PALESTINIAN FM CALLS FOR INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE ON ISRAEL TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE PRISONERS

Ramallah, – Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Al Maliki called on the international community to intervene to put an end to Israel’s violation of all international conventions and norms, and to pressure it to enter into negotiations with prisoners who have been continuing in a hunger strike since 17 April.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister said in a statement Tuesday that he will head to Geneva to meet with President of the Red Cross on the issue of the hunger striking prisoners, noting the efforts exerted by the Palestinian leadership to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian people.

He condemned the Israeli intransigence that rejects the principle of the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, and its continued occupation of the Palestinian territories for the establishment of illegal settlements, the latest of which was the announcement by the Israeli government to establish 25,000 new settlement units in Jerusalem.
