Palestine urges Israel to translate words into action

RAMALLAH, May 31 (KUNA) — Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said recent Israeli statements on two-state solution and Arab peace initiative should be accompanied by practical steps on ground and recognition of Palestine as an independent state within the pre-1967 borderlines.
“The Arab peace initiative is based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and is in keeping with the US-conceived roadmap for peace in the Middle East,” he said in a press release carried by the Palestine News Agency (WAFA) Tuesday evening.
He urged Israel to concede that the international legitimacy is the only way for security, stability and peace in the region.
“Any Israeli attempts to maneuver to evade the implementation roadmap will be unacceptable given the fact that there is broad consensus among the Palestinians and the Arab and Muslim countries on this plan,” he stressed.
Abu Rudeineh was commenting on a recent statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel was ready to negotiate the Arab peace initiative with a view to introducing amendments to it in the light of the post-2002 developments.
On a similar note, Israel’s new Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has stated support to the two-state solution. (end) nq.gb
