KASSALA, East Sudan, May 23 (KUNA) — A new Kuwaiti-funded high-school for girls was inaugurated in Kassala State, eastern Sudan, on Monday.
The new school, named Al-Darin and financed through an initiative by Kuwait University’s female students, is part of Kuwait’s continued support of development and service projects in Sudan, particularly Kassala State, Deputy-Governor of Kassala Majthoub Abu-Musa said in a statement.
This great educational monument, built through an unprecedented benevolent initiative by Kuwaiti female students, is a source of pride for all Kassala residents, Abu-Mousa said, adding that Kuwaiti people’s philanthropic actions have expanded throughout the world, including eastern Sudan recently.
Eastern Sudanese residents are so grateful to Kuwait, he said, pointing out the Donors Conference for East Sudan, which Kuwait hosted in 2010 to reconstruct eastern Sudanese regions.
Meanwhile, Sumaya Al-Maimani, founder of the Kuwaiti initiative, expressed her joy toward opening the school, adding that the school’s cornerstone was placed about two years ago, and now it is fully active.
She also expressed her group’s hope that the new school contributes in educating Kassala’s girls and build their minds and thoughts positively, stressing the importance of educated women in making fine generations and leaders, and in leading the community toward a better life. (end) hhi.ns.ma
