Militant attack kills 4 security personnel in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, June 29 (KUNA) — At least four security personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) were killed and three others injured on Wednesday in a militant attack in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, said officials.
An FC spokesperson, Khan Wasay told media that two ‘terrorists’ riding a motorcycle ambushed the FC personnel, killing four and wounding three others including a passerby on the double road area of the provincial capital Quetta.
“Three personnel died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital,” Wasey confirmed.
The victims belonged to the Sui Rifle Wing of the Frontier Corps, and were engaged in maintenance of their vehicle when they were attacked, he added.
The assailants managed to flee away after the attack. A senior police official, DIG Police Chaudhary Manzoor Sarwar also confirmed the incident saying that the incident appeared to be an act of targeted killing.
The security forces immediately cordoned off the area and injured were shifted to nearby military hospital.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri strongly condemned the attack.
Resource rich Balochistan has been facing militants’ insurgency for over a decade a militants have targeted security forces several times in past. (end) sbk.ibi
