Marriage Fund : a driving force for social stability, offered AED100 mn in grants for over 2000 grooms in 2013

WAM Abu Dhabi, 22nd Nov. 2013 (WAM) — Since the start of the year, the Marriage Fund (MF) has awarded its AED 70,000 marriage grant to 2,642 applicants in the tune of AED 100 million as part of its vision to build and maintain a stable and consolidated Emirati family.

A MF report said that six groups had received the grant this year, noting that the fifth batch was largest in volume and value at 582 applicants getting AED 22.2 million.

During 2012, the Fund offered total grants of AED 121.9 million for 3305 citizens and organized five mass weddings for 224 grooms.

Dr. Maithaa Al Shamsi, Chairman of MF, stated that those grants are given for UAE nationals to help them establish new family lives full of stability and integrity. They also play a role in reducing marriage costs and minimizing financial burdens shouldered by families. Many young men have been going through hard times due to the soaring marriage costs.

Throughout the current year, the report said the MF had organised six mass weddings across the country for 372 grooms in a bid to alleviate the wedding expenses for young Emirati couples so that they avoid borrowing from banks; and to start a happy trouble-free life.

The MF has launched its flagship “Eddad” Programme to prepare young men and women who are intending to get married so they can have a safe and stable family. The programme is compulsory to the those intending to get married and those benefiting from the Marriage Fund’s grants.

“Eddad Programme” is the new thought of the Marriage Fund as a social institution expanding more and more to cover the family on social, economic, and cultural levels ultimately turning the care in family affairs as part of belief in the nobleness of social message and its importance to build such stable and cohesive Emirati family.

The Marriage Fund also provides family guidance and counseling as a service to support family and to build society, by laying and implementing efficient and ongoing plans by which people can overcome the problems which hinder their objectives in light of their knowledge, and personal aspirations and capabilities. It also explores the opportunities available for such people to help them determine their choices to make suitable decisions, not forgetting to provide them with the related trainings through family advisors.

The MF was established by the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan with a mission to provide the future spouses with the financial support as well as preparing and qualifying them with the skills and knowledge required for building a coherent and stable Emarati family.

The Marriage Fund has sublime and humane objectives towards enhancing the social structure pillars and cementing its texture, as well as developing and activating it on all aspects , to yield good returns of stability and welfare to all its beneficiaries.

Strategic objectives are to encourage UAE males to get married to UAE females; promote family awareness on rules of setting up stable and coherent family, and work towards achieving and promoting family stability in society; enhance the principle of community partnership in private sector to finance the Marriage Fund’s plans and programmes, and increase weddings, and achieve excellence and corporate competency.

The Fund, since it establishment, has helped building tens of thousands of stable and consolidated families, and that the unlimited support given to the Marriage Fund by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan , President of the UAE, had and still has considerable and efficient effect in achieving its objectives and delivering its mission. Based on the directives and instructions by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the government has set up a forward strategic plan drawing new methodological features for meeting aspirations of the UAE citizens.

The MF launched the health environmental campaign for the first half of 2013. The campaign combined the two slogans of (diabetes: prevention and treatment) and (our environment … our survival). It aimed to translate the MF’s vision regarding the establishment of a well-knit and stable Emirati family.

The intensive awareness and guidance campaigns were launched by the MF to increase social, environmental, and health awareness among all segments of the society regarding different issues of interest to the family and the society. The MF is seeking to encourage people to assume a positive environmental role by effectively participating in different programs and activities, spreading the culture of environmental and health awareness, and encouraging health practices. The campaign’s objectives also include spreading awareness of how to prevent genetic disorders that married relatives may suffer from, and any other diseases that may arise due to ignoring premarital health checkup. All such objectives are set to build a healthy generation.

And in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Marriage Fund launched a media campaign entitled “Reasonable and Unreasonable Marriage Costs” to spread awareness and cut exorbitant marriage costs and expenses.

The MF said awareness media campaigns are considered the most important initiatives to address the problems facing young people planning for marriage, and even married couples. They are designed to recognize the difficulties they face and how to overcome them to start a life full of love and stability.

Media campaigns have been intensified to allow different segments gain awareness of family issues and to provide as much help as possible to the relevant public and private organizations so that they put programs and projects in action in the course of the campaign’s events.
