Paris, – Liberal centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen are expected to make it through to the second round of the French presidential vote, multiple French media report.

The polling company projections would set the stage for a contest between Macron’s liberal, pro-European vision and Le Pen’s anti-EU and anti-immigrant position, according to German press agency (dpa).

The projections, based on initial results, put Macron on 23 to 23.7 per cent of the vote, with Le Pen on 21.7 to 23 per cent.

Conservative former premier Francois Fillon and leftist Jean-Luc Melenchon are behind on 19 to 19.5 per cent. (QNA)
