London election of 1st Muslim mayor “historic development” — White House

WASHINGTON, May 9 (KUNA) — The election of Sadiq Khan as the first Muslim mayor of London is a “historic development,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday.
Some saw the election outcome as a way to “discourage some of the racism that has come up over the last few months in Great Britain, and some of the concepts that may exist even in this country,” Earnest said. “Some are using a parallel there… An interesting one.” Earnest apparently was referring to the US presidential candidacy of Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump.
