BEIRUT, May 8 (KUNA) — Lebanese Interior and Municipalities Minister Nuhad Mashnouq affirmed that the first phase of the ongoing municipal and mayoral elections in the country has passed peacefully and successfully as scheduled, official media reported Sunday.
The Lebanese people have proved their worthiness of freedom and democracy, Mashnouq said in a press conference, according to National News Agency (NND).
“The best polling station was in Arsal,” he noted, praising the tireless efforts exerted by the state institutions throughout the past week to ensure the well-running of municipal polls.
The Lebanese minister also pointed out the high turnout of voters in small villages, adding that this reflects voters’ faith in democracy in the country.
