KUWAIT, May 4 (KUNA) — His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah is to arrive to the Republic of Vietnam as part of an Asian tour, which also includes Bangladesh, South Korea and Japan.
During his Vietnam visit, His Highness will discuss with top officials bilateral relations and ways to enhance them on all levels.
His Highness’s visit also coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Vietnam; a period throughout which numerous bilateral meetings between officials of both countries were held, and contributed to bolstering mutual cooperation in various fields.
Both countries were so keen on developing their political relations and bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economy, investment, and trade.
Several agreements and memoranda of understanding are to be signed to expand economic, scientific, technological, transportation, and commercial cooperation.
The first official visit of a Vietnamese president to Kuwait was in 1995 by ex-President Le Duc Anh, while first official Kuwaiti visit to Hanoi was made in 2007 by the back then Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Vietnam opened its Embassy in Kuwait in 2007, the same year that Kuwait did so in Hanoi, in addition to the Kuwaiti Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, southern Vietnam.
The trade volume between Kuwait and Vietnam amounted to USD 800 million in 2011, an increase of 46 percent compared with that of 2010. (end) aja.ma
