Kuwaiti official stresses importance of participation in SOFEX in Amman

AMMAN, May 9 (KUNA) — Kuwait’s Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Khaled Al-Kheder has stressed the importance of participation in the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX).
Al-Kheder made the statement to KUNA on Monday on the sidelines of inaugurating the event, adding that it is the largest one in the world and the only one in its kind in the region in this field. He said it is a forum of boosting national and general security.
Kuwait is taking part in the exhibition with a high-level delegation to benefit from experts and senior military officials, and hold discussions on ways to foster security, he said.
It is an opportunity to coordinate efforts and discuss axes of joint cooperation in the framework of fulfilling the “distinguished” path of Kuwaiti-Jordanian cooperation in accordance with the visions of the two leaders, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Commander of Jordan Joint Special Operations Adnan Al-Abbadi has commended military relations with Kuwait, describing them as “distinguished and strategic”.
Armed forces of both Kuwait and Jordan are working together and adopting same techniques, he said, adding that this is the fruit of exchanging constantly views, expertise and drills.
Kuwait’s security and stability is part of Jordan’s security and stability, he stressed.
Asked about Kuwait’s presence in the exhibition with a high-level delegation, headed by Al-Kheder, he noted that this reflects Kuwait’s keenness on taking part in such international events so as to enhance relations between the two sides.
Al-Abbadi said the event, which is held every two years, features senior military officials, advisors and commanders of special forces across the globe to be briefed on the latest techniques in defense and security equipment and devises.
The exhibition is a chance to participants to exchange expertise and shed light on threats surrounding the world and the region, and how to unify methods to face them, he said.
He called for joint coordination and cooperation to combat terrorism, which poses a grave threat to the whole world.
The event tackles a wide range of issues pertinent to current counter terrorism and homeland security issues.
About 105 security and military delegations from about 54 countries and a number of international specialists and experts participate in the event which is held at the King Abdullah I Airbase in Amman. It will open officially to the audience on Tuesday.
About 380 international companies specialized in defense industries in the areas of national security and developed special operations equipment are partaking in the exhibition.
The 75,000 square meter of indoor and outdoor exhibition space attracts exhibitors and national pavilions from all corners of the globe. (end) mjb.hm
