Italy, Spain react to “terrorist” attack against Egypt's police

KUWAIT, May 9 (KUNA) — Italy on Monday expressed condolences to Egypt over the victims of “terrorist attack” that targeted police personnel south of Cairo.
Spain strongly condemned the attack that killed eight policemen on Sunday.
“This new attack confirms the need for stronger commitment and a cohesive stand by the entire international community in the fight against fundamentalist terrorism,” the Italian Foreign Ministry said in statement on its website.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry said in a statement it was confident perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
A lieutenant and seven NCOs were killed in the attack in southern Cairo’s Helwan neighborhood when four gunmen pulled alongside in a pick-up truck and sprayed a police vehicle with automatic weapons fire before fleeing, Egypt’s Interior Ministry said on Sunday. (end)
