Iran's Pres.: 18 female lawmakers in Majlis forms “record number”

TEHRAN, May 1 (KUNA) — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has described electing about 18 women in the country’s Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) as a “record number.” Rouhani made the statement through a tweet on Sunday in a comment to the results of Majlis elections.
He expressed his hope that this move would enhance women’s role at all levels of the State, including parliament and other institutions.
Elections for the 10th term of Majlis and the fifth term of the Assembly of Experts were held on February 26. About 221 lawmakers from all governorates won. (end)
