Info. Min. stresses depth of Arab-African ties

KUWAIT, May 29 (KUNA) — Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Sabah affirmed the deep-rooted relations between the Arab World and African Continent.
The minister made the statement on Sunday while receiving Director of the Africa-Arab Cultural Institute Dr. Mohammad Soufi, head of Arab League mission in Addis Ababa Ambassador Saleh Sahboun and other officials.
Visiting officials are set to attend the consultative meeting of Africa-Arab Cultural Institute late today. Sheikh Salman, also Chairman of National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), said that spreading of Islam and Arabic in the African countries has enhanced and strengthened common cultural heritage between the two sides.
He added that Kuwait had hosted the 3rd Arab-African Summit in 2013 during which conferees approved holding the institute’s consultative meeting here.
He noted that the Stat of Kuwait is paying much attention to Arab-African cooperation in all fields, indicating that this was shown in the initiatives by His Highness the Amir while presiding over the summit.
Restructuring the institute is a step towards promoting Arab-African cooperation and supporting common projects between the two sides, he pointed out.
Kuwait’s hosting of the consultative meeting supports culturally the institute, he said, urging the Arab League and African Union to increase the institute’s budget.
The minister also appealed to all civil society organizations in Arab and African countries to offer financial support for the institute, stressing that NCCAL is ready for providing the institute with editions and studies as a technical support. (end)
