INDIAN NATIONALS RESCUED AFTER SOMALI PIRATE ABDUCTION

New Delhi, – Ten Indian nationals abducted by Somali pirates earlier this month have been rescued, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Twitter on Wednesday.

“I am happy to inform that 10 Indian nationals working as crew on MV AL Kausar which was hijacked by pirates have been rescued,” Swaraj tweeted, without giving further details.

The men had been working as crew on a commercial vessel when it was hijacked off the Yemeni island of Socotra on April 1. The circumstances of their rescue were not clear, dpa reported.

The news was also confirmed by Sadiq Joon, a Somali official in the region of Galmudug, though he said that eight men had been freed as opposed to 10.(QNA)
