IDB concludes 41st meeting in Jakarta

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (KUNA) — The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group concluded the 41st annual meeting of its Board of Governors in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, on Thursday with a call for its 56 member countries to meet their financial commitments to the Bank’s Al-Aqsa Fund.
The IDB members have to help the Fund continue its pivotal support to the Palestinian people as early as possible, President of IDB Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali said at a joint press conference with Indonesia’s Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro.
“The decisions made by the IDB Board of Governors will strengthen sharing of best practices and knowledge between member countries for more effective development,” Dr. Ali stressed.
During the meeting he announced his retirement after more than 40 years as IDB President, and thereby the Board of Governors elected Bander Hajjaj, of Saudi Arabia, as new president.
The conferees approved a USD 5.2 billion loan from the IDB to Indonesia On his part, Brodjonegoro said: “We are pleased to note that IDB, along with its partners, cooperates with Indonesia.” “The Indonesian government really appreciates IDB’s funding approaches for our country. This success needs to be replicated to the other member countries of IDB,” he added.
The meeting approved Guyana’s bid for joining the IDB, thus making the South American country the 57th member of the Bank.
The meeting was held at Balai Sidang Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on May 15-19 under the theme of Enhancing Growth and Poverty Alleviation through Infrastructure Development and Financial Inclusion.
Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait Dr. Mohammad Al-Hashel led his country’s delegation to the gathering. (end) aab.sam.gb
