GCC to form new high-level economic commission

JEDDAH, May 31 (KUNA) — GCC leaders approved the formation of a high-level commission for economic and development affairs responsible to complete economic integration projects among Gulf countries, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said Tuesday.
The new commission would have wider authority in conducting studies and making decisions regarding the economic projects, Al-Jubeir said in a joint press conference with GCC Secretary General Abullatif Al-Zayani after the 16th consultative meeting in Jeddah.
It would also complete the steps taken to implement a number of integration projects related to the GCC Customs Union and common market, in addition to other vital projects that aim at boosting joint Gulf action, said Al-Jubeir.
GCC leaders also approved a recommendation on implementing Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud’s vision regarding enhancing the GCC joint action and strengthening solidarity and integration among Gulf states and people, he said.
They also approved holding an annual GCC-British summit alternately between Gulf States and Britain to boost bilateral ties between the two nations and enhance their joint cooperation and coordination in all fields, the Saudi minister noted.
For his part, Al-Zayani said that GCC leaders discussed and reviewed issues pertaining to enhance integration among the GCC countries in various fields.
Forming a new commission of economic and developmental affairs is a significant quantum leap in implementing integrated economic decisions, he noted, adding that the commission would enhance integration and coordination among the GCC countries in all economic and development fields, and accelerate the pace of joint action.
