GCC RED CRESCENT ORGANIZATION BACK QATAR TO CHAIR RED CROSS-RED CRESCENT INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION

Doha, – GCC Red Crescent organizations backed Chairman of the Board of Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) Dr Mohamed bin Ghanem Al Ali Al Maadheed as president of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

They also welcomed coordination with other Arab organizations in order to unite behind one candidate. They also expressed support to the Seventh Disaster Management Camp (DMC-7) held by QRSC. The announcement came in the conclusion of the 13th meetings of heads of red crescent organizations in the GCC.

Al Maahdeed called in a speech on all parties involved in humanitarian work to provide aid to people in need in East Africa, Rohinga Muslims in Mayanmar as well as refugees in the Arab world. He highlighted in that context the violations of human rights that are taking place in Syria.

For its part, QRCS released a statement today to the press that the meetings resolutions included the agreement on the importance of raising awareness on the value of humanitarian work. They also agreed on establishing a committee that is charged with planning the work of an authority for heads of GCC red crescent organizations.

The meeting discussed a wide-range of topics including developments in Syria and Aleppo, and developments in Yemen among other topics. They agreed to hold a GCC forum on volunteer work, that would take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain during January 2018. (QNA)
