French PM bypasses parl't on labor reforms

PARIS, May 10 (KUNA) — French government announced on Tuesday that it would allow Prime Minister Manuel Valls to bypass parliament and push through controversial labor reforms.
France 24 TV reported that the government used article 49-3 of the constitution to allow the enforcement of the reforms by decree.
“The Cabinet of Ministers under the chairmanship of President Francois Hollande has allowed me to resort to point 49-3 (of constitution), which is what I intend to do,” Valls said Tuesday, addressing the National Assembly – the lower house of the French parliament.
The government has developed “a consistent and balanced text “during debates, the adoption of which it considers necessary.
However, it is improbable that a majority of French lawmakers would support the bill, he added.
The bill has been widely criticized by citizens as it would make it easier for companies to lay off staff and cut payment for overtime work. (end)
