Foreign Minister receives US envoys

Manama: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, today met US Special Envoy, Retired General Anthony Zinni, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Arabian Gulf Affairs in the Near East Bureau, Timothy Lenderking, as well as their accompanying delegation, as part of their Gulf tour to discuss the Qatari crisis.

Shaikh Kahlid welcomed the visit that reflects the advanced strategic alliance between Bahrain and the United States and the development of historic relations between the two countries in various fields. He noted the visit affirms the keenness of the two countries to continue joint coordination on various issues.

The minister praised Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-US cooperation over the years, commending the US unwavering stance on confronting all forms of terrorism and its supporters and funders.

He reiterated Bahrain’s support to the relentless efforts exerted by the US to maintain security and stability, noting the importance of solidarity to face all threats and challenges targeting the region.

General Zinni praised the strong friendly bilateral relations and stressed the importance of joint action to protect the region and enhance international peace and security, lauding the measures taken by the Kingdom for that purpose.
