Eurogroup puts off decision on Greek debt relief till May 24th

BRUSSELS, May 9 (KUNA) — Finance ministers of the 19-member Eurogroup held an extraordinary meeting in Brussels Monday to discuss the state of play of the first review of the macroeconomic adjustment programme to Greece.
The Eurogroup in a statement welcomed a package of policy reforms, which included the pension system, income tax and privatisation strategy.
The Greek parliament passed earlier today controversial new pension and tax reforms.
However, the Eurogroup concluded that further work was needed by the Greek authorities and the institutions on a mechanism regarding additional contingency measures.
The Eurogroup reaffirmed its readiness to consider, upon the conclusion of the first review, if necessary, possible additional measures to ensure sustainability of Greece’s refinancing needs.
The Eurogroup said it will continue the discussion on Greece at its next meeting on May 24th. (end) nk.gta
