ELEVEN DIE AS REFUGEE BOAT SINKS OFF TURKEY COAST

Ankara, – At least 11 people died after a boat carrying refugees capsized Friday in the Aegean Sea en route to the Greek Islands, Turkish Coast Guard said in a statement carried by Anadolu Agency.

The inflatable boat carrying 22 people sank off the coast of Kusadasi district in western Aydin province. Eight people were rescued, while an operation started to find the missing three people, the statement added.

A spokesman for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Tuesday 20,484 migrants and refugees had entered Europe by sea in 2017 through March 19, with over 80 percent arriving in Italy and the rest in Spain and Greece, compared with 160,331 through the first 79 days of 2016. (QNA)
